Gender is stupid
So, I realised this weekend how retarded a concept gender is and how it really doesn’t describe me very well.
I never really liked the term ‘man’ being applied to me but never realised that WAS the gender associated with my sex. As is I’ve never really exhibited a trait I’d classify as masculine so I really can’t see how I would ever be considered a ‘man’.
I never really considered being a woman either, it just doesn’t really fit no matter how feminine I may appear or act, it’s just not really me.
So, we have two binary genders which realistically cover very few traits of humanity and I can’t find anything on non-binary genders which might cover my traits, which really just makes me consider gender an incredibly outdated and inadequate concept.
So for a while there I was really confused as to what gender I was supposed to identify as, if any. But then I kind of just accepted that it didn’t matter and moved on. I don’t particularly consider labelling my gender identity important. I don’t really fit any of the current labels (at least the ones I can find decent definitions of) so I don’t particularly feel that I need one.
And since I don’t feel like it concerns anyone else, it really doesn’t matter, so I’m just going to live without bothering about it. I’ll still go by male pronouns, I still identify as male so there’s no real reason to change that and I don’t feel any personal objection to be described by he/his/him like I do by ‘man’.
Interestingly, as I was considering this last concerned, I felt it could be expanded to include sexuality as well as, realistically, it only concerns yourself and ultimately, the only thing other peoplemightneed to know is if you’re interested in them as an individual. They don’t really need to know whether there are others similar to them who’re also attractive to you.
I have no objection to unifying through the indentity however. I proudly proclaim my own sexuality and fairly regularly bond with my other gay male friends as well as other queers through that identity. I just realised it was unnecessary for anyone to actually know.
